Wolves Beat Lake Erie Monsters 3-2

CLEVELAND -- Brett Sterling scored twice and Andrew Ebbett notched three points as the Chicago Wolves beat the Lake Erie Monsters 3-2 Saturday night at the Quicken Loans Arena.

Ebbett scored the team's first goal before Sterling produced his second two-goal game of the season for the Wolves (12-9-2-1), who ran their winning streak to three games. Goaltender Matt Climie (5-7-0) stopped 30 of 32 shots faced.

The Monsters (12-13-1-1) pounced on the Wolves early with Mark Olver slipping a score past Climie just 1:26 into the game. But Lake Erie didn't hold their lead for long. Wolves center Ebbett took a feed from defenseman Mark Matheson and beat Monsters goalie Calvin Pickard down low to make it 1-1 at 10:05 of the first. Chris Tanev also earned an assist.

Minutes later on the power play, Chicago pulled ahead as left wing Sterling smacked a puck from close range into Pickard's net at 13:05. It marked the third straight game in which the Wolves scored with the man advantage. Zack Kassian and Ebbett picked up assists on the play.

The Wolves took their one-goal lead into the second frame where Sterling promptly added to it as he rifled a puck past Pickard at 2:34 to make it 3-1 Wolves --- Kassian and Ebbett again setting him up.

The Monsters rallied late in the second frame to make it a one-score game again when left wing David van der Gulik beat Climie stick-side at 12:24.

The Wolves will return to Allstate Arena on Wednesday to take on the Abbotsford Heat at 11 a.m. in the first School-Day game of the season.
