One Year Later, Mom Of Slain Teen Waits For Justice
(CBS) – It's priority one in Chicago crime: the unsolved murder of Hadiya Pendleton.
Despite promises, this year is off to a worse start that last year's.
CBS 2's Brad Edwards talks with a mother who has been waiting one year for the one answer she never got.
Khiyona Winfert lost her 15-year-old son, De-shon, last year. He was her only child.
"I feel the same way I did the first day," she says.
Her son had no record or gang affiliation. He was shot by a passing vehicle, not even in his neighborhood, during a blood-stained first quarter of 2012.
The opening salvo of 2013 has been statistically worse.
"All these innocent kids getting killed -- it's horrible," Khiyona says.
She holds out hope the police will find those responsible for her own loss.
