One Dead, 4 Injured In Police Squad Car Crash

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person is dead, following a late night crash involving a Chicago Police squad car in the city's Austin neighborhood.

A total of 5 people were involved in this crash, near Laramie and Harrison.

Two of the three civilians hurt in the crash were brought to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition. The third civilian was ejected from that same car and died at the scene.

The crash happened around 11:30 last night. Police say one of their squad cars carrying two officers, was hit by this white car, possibly a Cadillac.

The two officers involved in this crash are ok and were taken to Stroger Hospital.

A light pole and a parked car, were also casualties of the accident.

CBS 2's Courtney Gousman talked to a woman who says she saw it all.

"That woman had to be traveling at least 80," said witness Patrice Dejesus. "He had a red light. He came across the red light. He hit the police vehicle, and after that he spun and hit the parked vehicle, and continued to hit a couple more people before he hit the pole."

Police aren't sure if alcohol was a factor in this crash.
