Man Dies After Evanston House Fire

EVANSTON, Ill. (CBS) -- A man in his 60s has died, from injuries suffered in a fire in north suburban Evanston on Wednesday.

Retired city employee Fred Davis was pronounced dead at 5:57 p.m. according to the Cook County Medical examiner's office.

The fire in the 1900 block of Hartrey Avenue started about 5 p.m., said Wally Bobkiewicz, Evanston's city manager, in an e-mail.

Fire Division Chief Dwight Hohl says he believes the man was home alone.

"He was the only one found in the house. there wasn't anybody else at the home," said Hohl.
The An autopsy is expected to be conducted Thursday.

Evanston firefighters had the fire under control before 6 p.m., he said
