Bill Daley Calls For Campaign Donation Ban During Legislative Sessions

(CBS) -- A Democratic hopeful in the governor's race says money is the root of a lot of evil, at least in the eyes of the electorate, reports WBBM's John Cody.

Former White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley notes Springfield is dealing with crises with pensions and education, but says, "Probably the most serious crisis we face in our politics and in our state is the crisis of confidence."

And a lot of this Daley traces back to transactional donations, people who legally contribute cash to lawmakers during the session hoping something good will happen.

"Raising money while our legislature is in session delivers a very bad and wrong message," said Daley.

Daley's solution is to ban any political contributions to elected officials while the legislature is in session, except for a 120 day period before elections.
