Man Killed In North Lawndale Home Invasion

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man is dead after a Thursday night home invasion on the West Side.

Two men knocked on the door of a residence about 8:15 p.m. in the 1600 block of South Central Park Avenue looking for a girl inside, police said.

Elijah Johnson, 50, answered the door and got into a physical struggle when the two suspects tried to force their way inside, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Police said one of the suspects then shot Johnson in the chest before they fled the scene on foot.

Johnson, of the 400 block of Stonewater Lane in west suburban Oswego, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:01 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.

No one is in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
