Two Women Hospitalized After South Shore Fire

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two people were injured when a fire broke out in an apartment building in the South Shore neighborhood Tuesday morning.

Firefighters responded to a fire at a 7-story apartment building at 7048 S. Merrill Av. around 7:30 a.m.

The fire was contained to a unit on the third floor.

Crews rescued at least one person from the unit. Two people were hospitalized.

One woman was taken to Jackson Park Hospital in serious condition. Another woman was taken to South Shore Hospital in stable condition.

A third person checked out by paramedics refused transportation to a hospital.
