Boy, 12, Among 8 Shot Since Thursday Morning
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Eight people, including a 12-year-old boy, were wounded in shootings across the city since Thursday morning.
The boy was shot in the leg Thursday night in the Altgeld Gardens neighborhood on the Far South Side. He told police he heard shots and felt pain after he walked past two males in the 13100 block of South Corliss Avenue about 8:45 p.m., police said.
The boy was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in "stable" condition, police said.
The most recent shooting occurred about 4:55 a.m. Friday in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.
A 34-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the back and walked into Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, where he was listed in "stable" condition, police said. He told police he was walking in the 7200 block of South Kimbark Avenue when a minivan pulled up and someone inside the vehicle opened fire, police said. The minivan then drove away.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Friday, a 25-year-old man was shot during a robbery attempt in the Englewood neighborhood.
The man was standing outside in the 5600 block of South Morgan Street, when four males, one of whom had a gun, approached him and tried to rob him, police said.
A fight broke out, and the gunman shot the man in the leg during the struggle, police said. The four suspects then ran away without any proceeds from the attempted robbery. The man was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in "stable" condition.
About an hour earlier, a 29-year-old man was shot in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side. The 29-year-old man was standing on a corner in the 100 block of North Long Avenue when he was shot in the buttocks and leg about 1:10 a.m., police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in "stable" condition.
About the same time, a man walked into Loretto Hospital on the West Side claiming he had also been shot in the Austin neighborhood. The man, 24, walked into the hospital about 1:10 a.m. and told police he was outside in the 5200 block of West Monroe Street when he heard shots and realized he'd been hit, police said.
He was transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in "stable" condition with gunshot wounds to the side of his face and his buttocks, police said.
Thursday evening, a 22-year-old man was shot in the leg in the North Side Lincoln Square neighborhood.
The man was in the 5200 block of North Rockwell Street about 6 p.m. when two male suspects approached him on the street, police said. One of them pulled out a gun and shot the man in the leg. Police believe the shooting may have been gang-related.
He was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston in "stable" condition, police said.
Earlier Thursday afternoon, a man was seriously wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the South Side. The man, 28, was outside about 1:50 p.m. in the 7000 block of South Rockwell Street when a silver, four-door vehicle drove by and someone inside shot him in the right shoulder, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in serious condition.
Just before noon, a man was shot in the face in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood. The 18-year-old was walking in the 8900 block of South Justine Street at 11:50 a.m. when two males in a silver SUV drove up and fired shots, striking him in the face, police said. The vehicle then drove off.
The man took himself to Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition, police said. Authorities think the shooting may be gang-related.
No one is in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigate.
