Two Critically Wounded In Police Shootout In Hobart, Ind.

HOBART, Ind. (STMW) -- Two people are in critical condition with gunshot wounds after a police-involved shooting in northwest Indiana on Thursday night.

On Thursday night, a Hobart police officer saw a shooting take place between two vehicles in the 1600 block of East 62nd Avenue, Hobart police said in a statement.

A person in one of the vehicles suffered a gunshot wound, police said.

Hobart police officers went to investigate the other vehicle, which had driven off the road, police said. While investigating, officers were fired at and returned fire, striking the person in the other vehicle.

Both subjects are being treated for gunshot wounds and are in critical condition, police said.

The Lake County Sheriff's department is investigating, but would not release further details.
