(CBS) In early March, MLB Advanced Media announced it was unveiling a new player tracking system that would was a first of its kind for the regular consumer and change the way scouts and fans evaluate players’ movements on the field.

Essentially, the new technology allows viewers a true evaluation of every detail of the game — be it measuring outfielders’ angles on fly balls, catchers’ throws to cut down potential base steals or analyzing reactions times and acceleration speeds of any given player on the field.
