(CBS) The White Sox have placed reliever Matt Lindstrom on the 15-day disabled list with a sublexing peroneal (outside) tendon in his left ankle, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.

Lindstrom suffered the injury in the ninth inning of last night’s win against the Royals while attempting to field a bunt. He’s returning to Chicago for further examination. Lindstrom, 34, had assumed the team’s closer role, registering six saves in 19 appearances to go with a 3.32 ERA.

To replace him, Chicago has recalled right-handed reliever Javy Guerra, 28, from Triple-A Charlotte. Guerra is 1-1 with a 2.33 ERA and three saves in 14 appearances this season for Charlotte.
