Two Suspects In Murder Of Rogers Park Photographer Arrested In Wisconsin

(CBS) -- Two North Side teens are in jail in Wisconsin, charged with the murder of a Rogers Park photographer last month.

The Chicago Tribune reports 15-year-old Denzel Burke and 17-year-old Michael Philips were arrested in Racine County, Wisconsin on warrants for the murder of Wil Lewis.

The 28-year-old Lewis just moved to Rogers Park when he was killed on July 12, days before he was supposed to start a new job as a photographer.

Lewis was shot and killed as he waited for the bus. Police say Lewis was caught in the middle of a gang gun fight and was accidentally hit in the back.

Ald. Joe Moore (49th), who was walking on the block at the time of the shooting, said witnesses helped police catch the suspects.

"Witnesses took photos of the two teens fleeing down the street and shared those photos with the police," Morre said in statement. "According to Commander Waldera, this information proved absolutely invaluable to solving this crime and leading to the arrests. Though it took some time for the police to locate the two other suspects, who fled the state, the police knew almost immediately who they were looking for thanks to the information provided by eyewitnesses."

Investigators say Eric Vaughn handed the gun to a man who shot Lewis and was arrested as he tried to pick up fellow gang members after the shooting.

He's now being held without bail.
