(CBS) — Sen. Mark Kirk is applauding law enforcement’s efforts to stop gangs. He focused on more than one program in a tour of Cook County Jail on Wednesday, reports WBBM’s Craig Delimore reports.

Make no mistake Senator Mark has pushed for millions in funding to put hardened gang members behind bars but after meeting with some gang members at Cook County Jail he also applauded programs to train inmates to be barbers and cooks.

“The point is that when they get out of jail don’t return to crime, to make sure that they have hope and a profession, that we slowly drive that supply of hardened criminals,” Kirk said.

He said the inmates at the jail are receptive to that for themselves and younger gang members.
