Schaumburg Police Nab Pair Of Suspects After Dozens Of Mailboxes Are Smashed

(CBS) – Schaumburg police arrested a pair of alleged vandals shortly after dozens of mailboxes were smashed in the northwest suburb overnight.

Patrol units responded to calls around 1 a.m. Monday that a white vehicle was driving in the Kingsport subdivision while a passenger smashed mailboxes with a pipe. Officers located a vehicle matching the description and took two suspects into custody.

Eric A. Beck, 19, of Hoffman Estates, and a juvenile police did not identify were both charged with several counts of misdemeanor criminal damage to property.

"The quick response and effective teamwork by our midnight shift officers was exemplary in this case," Police Chief Jim Lamkin said in a news release.

As for the mailboxes, police said as many as 75 were damaged by the pair.

Beck posted $1,500 bond and will appear in court Oct. 15, police said. His alleged juvenile accomplice will appear in juvenile court.
