Levine: C.J. Edwards Showing His Stuff In Arizona

(CBS) -- The career of top Cubs pitching prospect C.J. Edwards is starting to come back to form after another strong outing in the Arizona Fall league on Monday.

Edwards threw three innings without giving up a hit against Salt River in his fourth outing of the fall.

The 23-year-old right-handed pitcher missed a good portion of 2014 rehabbing his right shoulder after an early season injury. He made 10 starts, going only 48 innings at Double-A Tennessee before the season ended in early September.

Acquired from Texas in 2013, Edwards is expected to be on the fast track to Wrigley Field in the next 18 months.

"I have been focusing on my command and throwing all of my pitches," he said. "My arm is as good as it ever has been. I am, without a doubt, 100 percent."

After the Fall League season ends on Nov. 15, Edwards will return home and get his conditioning program going for spring training.

"I am shutting it down completely until the spring," he said. "Right now, I am limited to three innings and 55 pitches, which has worked out great."

Edwards will pitch for the Eastern All-Stars in the Fall Stars Game on Saturday at Salt River Fields.

"I am excited to play in the game with a bunch of guys who have earned this," Edwards said. "It should be a lot of fun, and I am looking forward to it."

The Cubs believe the 6-foot-2, 155-pound Edwards can be a big league rotation starter when he gets enough innings under his belt.
