Report: Bears Interested In Gase, Weis, Cooter As OC Candidates, Among Others

(CBS) After officially hiring defensive coordinator Vic Fangio on Tuesday, the next big move for the Bears is to find an offensive coordinator to serve under new coach John Fox.

And it sounds like there's already a lengthy list.

The Bears are considering Adam Gase, Charlie Weis, Geep Chryst and Jim Bob Cooter, among other candidates, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Bears haven't given a timeline for when they want to hire an offensive coordinator, other than general manager Ryan Pace acknowledging there must be an urgency to hire a top candidate.

The interest in the 36-year-old Gase comes as no surprise, as he served the past two seasons as the Broncos' offensive coordinator under Fox, after previously serving as the quarterbacks coach. Denver finished first in total points in 2013 (37.9) and second in total points this past season (30.1).

Weis most recently served as the head coach at Kansas, where he went an abysmal 6-22 in 2 1/2 seasons. At the NFL level, Weis has previously been an offensive coordinator for the Jets, Patriots and Chiefs.

Chryst has served as the 49ers' quarterbacks coach since 2011.

Cooter, 30, was the Lions' quarterbacks coach this past season. Previously, he was an offensive assistant in Denver under Fox.
