Carriages Damaged In Fire At Noble Horse Theatre

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An early morning fire destroyed several carriages at the historic Noble Horse Theatre in the Old Town neighborhood.

No horses or people were injured in the blaze, which was mostly contained to a garage and storage area away from where the horses are kept. The horses were not exposed to smoke or flames.

However, at least six carriages were damaged or destroyed by flames.

The fire started around 1:10 a.m. at Noble Horse Theatre, 1410 N. Orleans St., and was extinguished about half an hour later.

Noble Horse Theatre features a variety of live shows featuring horses and their riders, and also offers carriage rides on the Magnificent Mile.

There was another fire at the stable in September 2012, when an electrical fire burned five carriages. No horses were injured in that fire, either.

The cause of Friday morning's fire was under investigation, but the Fire Department said an initial report indicated the fire likely was accidental. The stable's owners were assessing damage to the facility.
