Chicago Region Sees Rise In Anti-Islamic Sentiment, Muslim-Rights Group Says

Anti-Muslim Sentiment Rising?

(CBS) -- A Muslim rights group here in Chicago warns about a series of hate incidents in the past 15 days.

The first involved anti-Islamic graffiti scrawled in a boys' bathroom at Sandburg High School in Orland Park on Feb. 6.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is concerned the school did not go on lockdown nor notify parents. Sandburg High School officials say an email was sent to parents and the school did go on soft lockdown.

The day after that incident, a mosque in McHenry County notified CAIR after receiving a threatening letter.

A week ago, a Muslim woman wearing Islamic attire says a man drove up next to her in Palos Park, yelling profanities and waving a gun.
