4 Killed, 18 Wounded In Weekend Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Four people were killed and at least 18 others wounded in shootings across Chicago throughout the weekend.
The most recent fatality happened Saturday afternoon in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.
Milon L. Carvis, 42, was standing on the sidewalk about 4:15 p.m. with several other adults in the 7800 block of South Seeley when a male walked up and fired shots, police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said. The shooter then ran away eastbound.
Carvis was shot in the torso and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 5:07 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 8400 block of South Hoyne Avenue, according to the medical examiner's office.
About four hours earlier, a teenage boy was found shot to death in the West Englewood neighborhood.
Officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 6500 block of South Marshfield at 12:18 p.m. found 16-year-old Martell J. Lawrence unresponsive on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.
Lawrence, of the 1700 block of West Marquette, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:47 p.m., authorities said.
Police said he had documented gang affiliations and a history of arrests.
Friday afternoon, a man was shot to death in Englewood.
Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 2 p.m. in the 7000 block of South Normal Avenue found 18-year-old Azun Buckner with multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said.
Buckner, of the 6900 block of South Eggleston, was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital where he later died, authorities said.
A police source said he was a documented gang member.
About 11:30 a.m. Friday, a 22-year-old man was fatally shot while walking near Washington Park.
Jerome Anderson was walking in the 5800 block of South King Drive when a gold vehicle pulled up and an armed male suspect got out, according to police and the medical examiner's office. The suspect opened fire then drove off.
Anderson, of the 7900 block of South Wabash, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later, authorities said.
A police source said he was a documented gang member, and was on parole at the time of the shooting.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened Sunday night in the Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side.
A man, 29, was walking in the 7000 block of South Vincennes about 11:15 p.m. when someone exited a light-colored vehicle nearby and fired shots in his direction, police said. The shooter then jumped back in the vehicle, which sped away southbound.
The man was shot in the side and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
At least 17 other people have been wounded in shootings since 1:20 p.m. Friday, authorities said.
Also, Chicago Police officers shot a man accused of pointing a gun at them Saturday afternoon in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
About 4:15 p.m., gang enforcement officers on patrol in the 6100 block of South Rockwell approached the 34-year-old man for a narcotics investigation, according to a statement from Chicago Police.
As an officer walked up and announced himself, the man turned and pointed a handgun at him, police said.
The man then ran away and eventually ran into two more officers. He again pointed his gun at the officers and they shot him in both legs, police said.
He was taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, authorities said.
A police source said the man is a convicted felon on parole.
