CHICAGO (CBS) — Seven-year-old Elijah Dace was walking home from school on Wednesday when two gunmen ambushed him and shot him in the shoulder.

The shooters, who appeared to be teens, opened fire, and shot Elijah in the shoulder, though police have said investigators do not believe he was the intended victim.READ MORE: Chicago Weather: Warm Winds Friday
“Two individuals, teens, came out, standing right here, discharged weapons. When they discharged them weapons, they took off running southbound toward Ada Park, but the little 7-year-old laid here,” Holmes said.

Elijah was being treated at Comer Children’s Hospital, and doctors said he’s doing well.
