Boy, 3, Impaled On Fence After Falling From Window

CHICAGO (CBS) – A 3-year-old boy fell out of a second-floor window in the Englewood neighborhood Monday night and suffered serious injuries when he was impaled on a fence.

The child fell around 9 p.m. from a second-story window in a residence in the 7100 block of South Emerald Avenue.

The boy suffered a cut to his stomach and chest after being impaled by part of a fence, but he was free of the structure when rescue crews had arrived.

He was in serious to critical condition when he was taken to The University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital, but his condition stabilized overnight, and he was expected to survive.

It was not immediately clear how the boy fell from the window.
