Owner Seeks Help to Find 'Best Friend,' Collie Named KD

CHICAGO (CBS) — A female red Merle Border Collie named KD got away from the man responsible for transporting her from Denver to Chicago, says the dog's owner, Walker Berry.

KD disappeared near the Greater Chicago Truck Plaza at I-55. Berry believes KD is now in the vicinity of Bolingbrook or Romeoville.

Berry posted on a Facebook page created to help find KD.

I really need your help... She is a beautiful red/brown and white border collie named KD Berry... Very friendly but also probably very scared. She does not have her collar because apparently it was lost when she got away. She is microchipped. She got away from the transporter near the truck stop located on I-55 and Rt.53. He chased her south and east for hours so she could be anywhere in that direction... I am in Colorado and feel so helpless... Can you please help me find my girl... She is my best friend...I am at a loss and have no idea what to do...

Animal lovers from around the country have joined in the search for KD. Says Rita Chesterton of New Jersey, of why she is assisting in these efforts, "I'm a senior citizen. I love animals. Plus, when I was a child, I was separated from my parents a short while. I know the pain of separation and the joy of reunion. This inspires me to help pets 'get home again."

If you see KD or have information leading to her whereabouts, reach out to Berry on the KD is Lost - Please Help Facebook page.

* Corrections: KD was headed to Chicago from Denver; the previous version said the opposite. We have also corrected the name of the Facebook page.
