Scattered Showers To Linger Throughout The Day

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Chicago area doesn't have to worry about severe weather on Monday, but there will be some showers, and perhaps a few scattered storms.

That rain will add insult to injury along the already swollen Kankakee River, which was still at flood stage on Monday, and under a flood warning until late Wednesday night.

Some light rain was falling Monday morning across parts of the city, and the southern and western suburbs, as well as northwest Indiana, and small portions of the northern suburbs. Most of the heaviest rain has pushed off to the east, however.

Scattered showers will continue throughout the day, as an unstable system lingers in the Chicago area. A few garden variety isolated thunderstorms could pop up, though none of the precipitation should be very heavy.

Meantime, temperatures will be below average, with a high of only about 75. The normal high for this time of year in Chicago is 83.

Tuesday will bring another chance for showers, but Wednesday and Thursday should be dry. Showers and storms return to the forecast on Friday and through the weekend.
