White Sox Ace Chris Sale Gets All-Star Nod
(CBS) White Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale has been named an American League All-Star, it was announced Monday evening.
The 26-year-old Sale is 6-4 with a 2.87 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 141 strikeouts in 103 1/3 innings. Sale has struck out at least 10 hitters in eight straight games, tying an MLB record, and he was scheduled to start Monday evening against the Blue Jays in his quest to set the mark himself. He's tied for first in the AL in strikeouts, is third in WHIP and is ninth in ERA through Sunday's game.
This marks Sale's fourth All-Star appearance, one coming in each of the past four years. He figures to get consideration to start the All-Star Game, which takes takes place July 14 at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. Royals manager Ned Yost will choose who starts the game.
In a television interview Monday evening on ESPN, Yost said he hadn't yet finalized his pitching matchups and decisions.
Sale joins left-hander Billy Pierce (1955-'59) as the only pitchers in White Sox history to make at least four straight AL All-Star teams. He was the only member of the White Sox to be named an All-Star.
