CHICAGO (CBS) — This story smells.

Warrenville Fire Protection District firefighters were called to a home at 29W571 Albright late Wednesday afternoon by the wife of a 78-year-old man who slid head first into his septic tank while working on the tank’s pump.

Assistant Chief Jamie Clark said the man essentially stood on his head for 15 minutes.

“All that was out of the tank were his ankles and his feet,” Clark said. “He slid in onto his head, and he was resting on his head.”

Fortunately for that man, the tank was virtually empty.

When firefighters arrived, they pulled him out feet first.

The embarrassed man asked firefighters to cut his clothes off, and his wife for a change of clothes. Paramedics noted a bump and cut on his head, and decided to transport him to Central Du Page Hospital for observation.
