CHICAGO (STMW) — A man was shot to death in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Thursday night.

About 8:45 p.m., the 22-year-old was walking in the 5200 block of South Emerald Avenue when someone walked out of a nearby gangway and opened fire, police said. The shooter then jumped in a vehicle, which sped away.

The man was shot in the upper body and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he later died, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death but did not release additional details early Friday.

A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
