1 Killed, 14 Wounded In Weekend Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 17-year-old boy was killed and at least 14 other people were shot across Chicago between Friday night and early Saturday.
About 11 p.m., the teen and a 20-year-old man were in the 6400 block of South Justine Street when a male got out of a passing white Cadillac and shot them, police said. The model of the vehicle was not immediately known.
The teen was shot in the chest and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:52 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. Authorities later identified him as Torri Williams of the 9000 block of South Laflin.
The man, 20, was shot in the arm and taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened about 4:30 a.m. Saturday in Old Town on the Near North Side.
A 21-year-old man was in the 1200 block of North Clybourn when someone in a passing dark-colored car opened fire, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition after the shooting, which police said likely was gang-related.
About an hour earlier, a 20-year-old man was shot in Back of the Yards. The attack occurred about 3:37 a.m. in the 4600 block of South Paulina. He was taken to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm, and his condition stabilized, police said.
At 3:15 a.m., a 40-year-old man was on the front porch of a home in the 2400 block of West Lexington when a group of people walked up and one of them opened fire, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
About the same time, a 21-year-old man was shot at a party in Wicker Park. He told investigators he was at the house party in the 1900 block of West Division when someone pulled out a gun and fired it, striking him in the foot, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
About 2:40 a.m., a man was critically wounded in a Burnside neighborhood shooting.
The 23-year-old got into an argument with "a known offender" in the 9200 block of South Drexel, police said. During the argument, the male pulled out and gun and shot the 23-year-old several times. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, police said.
Five minutes earlier, a man was shot several times in West Englewood, about a half mile west of the evening's only fatal shooting.
About 2:36 a.m., the 20-year-old was standing on a corner in the 6400 block of South Damen when someone walked up and shot him repeatedly. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in serious condition.
Late Friday, a 19-year-old man was wounded in an Uptown neighborhood shooting.
About 11:40 p.m., he was in a car parked in an alley near the 4900 block of North Kenmore when a gunman walked up and fired into the vehicle, police said. A bullet struck his head and he was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition stabilized, police said.
Along with the homicide, two more shootings were reported about 11 p.m. Friday.
In the Logan Square neighborhood, a 34-year-old man suffered a graze wound near the intersection of Cortland and Mozart, police said. He declined treatment at the scene.
Two men, ages 20 and 21, were walking outside in the 6600 block of South Bishop in West Englewood when they heard shots and felt pain, according to police. The younger man was shot in the leg and buttocks and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, and the older was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the wrist. Both their conditions stabilized, police said.
The weekend's first shooting left three men wounded in East Garfield Park.
The men, ages 20, 30 and in his 20s, were standing outside about 9:30 p.m. in the 600 block of North Springfield when they heard gunfire and felt pain, police said.
All three were shot in the leg and taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital, police said. The man thought to be in his 20s was not cooperating with investigators.
Additionally, a 30-year-old man shot himself in the leg at a party early Saturday in North Lawndale on the West Side, according to police. He was highly intoxicated when he suffered a gunshot wound to the leg about 3:10 a.m. at the party in the basement of a home in the 1900 block of South Trumbull. His condition was stabilized at Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.
