(CBS) As Wrigley Field rocked last weekend during the Cubs’ four-game sweep of the Giants, there was plenty of anecdotal evidence to suggest that fans are buying into the young North Siders.

Now there’s telling empirical evidence as well.

With a 5.1 rating, Chicago’s 6-3 win against Milwaukee on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field was CSN Chicago’s highest-rated Cubs telecast in exactly six years, according to senior director of communications Jeff Nuich. The last Cubs broadcast to draw more viewership on CSN Chicago came on Aug. 11, 2009, when a Chicago-Philadelphia game drew a 6.1 mark. That was amid an 83-win season for the Cubs.

This version of the Cubs now stands at 63-48, which is good for the NL’s second wild card and the fourth-best record in baseball. The Cubs’ win on Sunday against the Giants was also the top-rated program in the Chicago market on Sunday, according to Nuich.
