(CBS) – The investigation into the shooting death of a Fox Lake police officer continues as the long holiday weekend begins.

The threat of three suspects still on the loose is putting a damper on what is usually summer’s last fling, CBS 2’s Jeremy Ross reports.

Make no mistake. Many families plan to spend on the waterfront or on the lake itself.

But authorities have concerns about the potential for the suspects to be in hiding in remote areas or seasonal dwellings.

Covered boats or vacant vacation homes could harbor three men who ended the life of Fox Lake Police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz. Owners coming back into town this holiday could find someone who doesn’t want to be found.

That’s a worry in Paul Bartell’s neighborhood. He’s noticed some making alternative travel plan

“They’re not going to come out here for the holiday weekend,” he says. “That definitely puts a damper on business.”

Maria Diaz, owner of the Fox Lake Family Restaurant, says business is not the same.

She estimates a 40 percent sales decrease recently.
