CHICAGO (CBS) — A portion of Kansas City’s airport was evacuated on Tuesday after a passenger on a flight from Chicago caused some sort of disturbance.

According to a spokeswoman with the FBI, American Airlines Flight 4412 to Kansas City landed safely around noon and the passenger was taken into custody after displaying suspicious behavior.

A luggage check was conducted and items that initially appeared suspicious were determined to not pose a threat. After determining the passenger did not pose a threat, the individual was released and was not detained, the FBI spokeswoman said.

The evacuation caused the cancellation of two other flights.

Gates 76 through 86 in Terminal C were evacuated, according to Kansas City media reports.

Airport spokesman Joe McBride told KSHB 41 Action News: “An individual aboard displayed suspicious behavior. Based upon the individual’s demeanor and behavior exhibited, crew members contacted the Kansas City Aviation Department Airport police.

“This individual was contacted upon departure of the aircraft by the KCI Airport Police. Out of an abundance of caution, KCI Airport Police evacuated portions of the airport terminal to ensure the safety of the general public.”

As of 3:50 p.m, the terminal had reopened.
