Emanuel: Cubs' Spirit Has "Captured The Rest Of America"

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel had high praise for the Cubs' leadership and youth on Wednesday, a day after the North Siders advanced to the National League Championship Series, but he had little to say about how fan celebrations were or will be handled.

The mayor said he doesn't really want to discuss how police let crowds in Wrigleyville celebrate after Tuesday's big win over the Cardinals to close out the National League Division Series.

After all, he said, there are lots of other things to think about first.

"One is we're having a victory," he said. "That's different. Two, the Chicago Cubs, the players, the leadership – both management, coaches – unbelievable; they've captured not only the heart of the city, the spirit of the city, their youthful energy has also captured the rest of America. So that's number one. That's where I start."

Emanuel said he's most proud of the way Cubs management has embraced the youthful exuberance of a team that has a spirit usually only seen in college sports, and he's very happy with the way things are going.
