CHICAGO (CBS) — A 20-year-old man from Evergreen Park has been issued multiple traffic citations after striking and killing a woman who was crossing Lake Shore Drive when the man ran a red light on his motorcycle.

Police said Charles Lyons, of the 9400 block of South Spaulding, swerved between cars stopped at a red light at Lake Shore Drive and Balbo Avenue late Monday, and blew through the red light, crashing into a group of pedestrians who were crossing the street near Buckingham Fountain.

A 25-year-old woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her name has not been released.

Lyons also was taken to Northwestern for treatment. He remained hospitalized Wednesday morning, but has since been issued citations for failure to stop at a red light, having no valid motorcycle classification, having no valid driver’s license, having no insurance, failure to yield to avoid an accident, failure to yield to pedestrians, and improper lane usage.

The Chicago Police Major Accidents Investigation Unit was still investigating, but no felony charges had been filed as of Wednesday morning.

A man who also was struck was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County for treatment. He was in serious condition on Tuesday, but an updated condition was not available on Wednesday.
