Naperville Standoff Ends Peacefully

(CBS) -- A man gave himself up to police Thursday night, ending an eight-hour standoff in west suburban Naperville.

A Naperville Police spokesman said that the man surrendered peacefully at about 7:30 p.m. and that area streets were reopened a short time later.

No one was hurt during the standoff.  Police had said earlier in the day that people who lived in the area of Carriage Hill Road and Coach Drive should stay in their homes, find alternate routes  or avoid the area.

Deputy Police Chief Mike Anders said the situation began at about 11:30 am., and involved an occupant of a home on Phaeton Court.  Police refused to discuss what led to the standoff.

About 25 police officers and firefighters spent the afternoon surrounding the home, including members of the police Special Response Team.
