Authorities Destroy Pipe Bomb Found Along Fox River, Near Oswego
(STMW) -- A pipe bomb was found on the bank of the Fox River Thursday morning near west suburban Oswego.
Oswegoland Park District maintenance workers were cutting down brush along Route 25 near Boulder Pass in unincorporated Oswego Township when they spotted a "suspicious item" on a pile of river debris about 11:15 a.m., according to the Kendall County sheriff's office.
The "makeshift" PVC pipe bomb was capped and contained gunpowder, paper and plastic, sheriff's police said.
Authorities called in the Kane County Bomb Disposal Unit, which used a robot to destroy it, police said. Roads and walking paths in the area were shut down for about 90 minutes.
Police said they don't know how long the bomb had been there or where it came from.
