(CBS) — A shooting on the outbound lanes of the Chicago Skyway left a man dead and a woman wounded Wednesday afternoon on the Southeast Side, according to Chicago Police.

Police say between 9100-9700 south on the Skyway a BMW coupe was approached by a black SUV and someone from the SUV fired into the BMW around 1:30 p.m. It is not known how many people were in the SUV. Police sources say they were shot just past the toll. They did not make it across the bridge.

The man, 25, was shot multiple times and died on the scene. The Cook County medical examiner identified him as Elliot Brown of the 4000 block of South Calumet Avenue. The woman, 23, was wounded in the arm and was transported to Northwestern Hospital in stable condition.

Police believe that occupants of both vehicles has contact prior to the shooting. The outbound lanes were shut down for nearly three hours as police investigated the shooting.

The toll plaza has cameras and police sources say they are examining the footage.
