Shoppers Out Picking Up Super Bowl Party Favorites

CHICAGO (CBS) -- So many football fans are grabbing their game day favorites for Super Bowl Sunday.

About 43 million fans across the country plan to throw a party tomorrow, so local grocery stores are packed.

CBS 2's Audrina Bigos reports on Super Bowl Sunday that diets are put on pause, calories are forgotten and no one is keeping track of how many wings you eat.

At Mariano's in the West Loop, wings are the most popular Super Bowl pick. You've got baked, buffalo, BBQ and anything you want.

"Our big-ticket items are going to be fried catfish, spaghetti with turkey Italian sausage so I'm excited about that, it's one of my specialities," shopper Terryn Murphy said.

"Stores are super busy on game day weekend," said Amanda Puck, Mariano's director of brand development. "It's great to see the energy and people selecting what they're going to buy but we are busy literally up until kickoff."

Shoppers are expected to spend about $80 on food on average.
