Unions Seek Deals At U. of I., Brookfield Zoo

CHICAGO (CBS) -- There are new developments in two separate labor contract negotiations in Illinois, one in Urbana-Champaign and the other in Brookfield.

Non-tenured faculty at the University of Illinois are on strike today and tomorrow, WBBM's Terry Keshner reports.

The union has about 500 teachers, researchers and other faculty.

The union has been negotiating with the U. of I. for its first-ever contract for about a year and a half.

Meantime, employees at Brookfield Zoo aren't walking off the job yet.

Negotiators for about 300 zookeepers, groundskeepers and patrol officers have extended their contract until midnight Thursday while contract talks continue.

If there is a strike at the zoo, there are provisions in place to take care of the animals.
