Police: Domestic Dispute May Have Lead To Triple Homicide

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A "person of interest" sought for questioning in a triple homicide in the Englewood neighborhood fired several shots at Chicago police officers after he holed up inside a home in the Fernwood neighborhood.

The man was later found dead inside the home.

Investigators said a man showed up at a home on the 1500 block of West 71st Street in Englewood around 11:20 p.m., and opened fire inside and outside the home.

"I was just ready for bed I had just got off my knees praying for God to wrap his arms around the city because it's so tragic, you know, then that's when I heard shots," said neighbor Brenda Jackson.

Relatives identified the victims as 30-year-old Makeesha Starks; her stepfather, 50-year-old Jerome Wright; and her sister-in-law, 26-year-old Kiara Kinard. Starks and Wright were shot in the head, and pronounced dead at the scene. Kinard was shot in the back, and died at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Jonathan Ford a cousin to the victims is doing his best to cope with the tragedy.

"The family was a huge family, a loving family," he said.

Police said the shooting appeared to be the result of a domestic dispute.

The man sought for questioning in the shooting was believed to be the father of Starks' two boys.

It's unclear if anyone else was home at the time of the shooting.
