Bears Try Out 4 Players, Including Tight End Tony Moeaki

By Chris Emma--

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (CBS) -- Bears quarterback Jay Cutler had a big target available Tuesday during the team's minicamp. Free-agent tight end Tony Moeaki was among four players participating in tryouts.

A five-year NFL veteran and native of Wheaton, Ill., Moeaki was joined by tight end Ryan Taylor, fullback Darrel Young and defensive lineman Marquis Jackson.

The Bears are in the market for depth at tight end, and Moeaki, an Iowa product, could be the answer. Taylor, 28, has played for three teams since being drafted by the Packers in 2011. He hasn't caught a pass since 2013.

After parting ways with Martellus Bennett, the Bears have been looking for a complement to new top tight end Zach Miller. They pursued Saints tight end Josh Hill and even offered Jermaine Gresham four years and $23 million in free agency, with nearly half of that total in guaranteed money.

Young, 29, has played six NFL seasons as the starting fullback for Washington. The Bears are looking to find a full-time fullback, with new offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains looking for an answer to bolster their power-running game.

The brother of NFL star Malik Jackson, Marquis Jackson joined the Bears for minicamp after an audition during rookie camp. Bears coach John Fox coached Malik during his time in Denver.

Entering Tuesday, the Bears' roster stood at the NFL limit of 90 players.
