(CBS) Viva, Las Vegas. The NHL is coming to Sin City.

The NHL officially announced Wednesday that it would award the city of Las Vegas a team, which will begin play in 2017.

By adding Las Vegas, the NHL will now play with 31 teams, adding a 15th team to the Western Conference. Las Vegas will join the Pacific Division.

Las Vegas will form a roster based on an expansion draft, which consists of seven forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender. That will take place in 2017.

There will be no further realignment with the addition of Las Vegas to the NHL.
