Pregnant Florida Woman Relocates To Illinois Amid Zika Scare

(CBS) – One Florida woman takes extreme measures to protect her unborn baby from Zika.

She moved more than 1,000 miles to the Chicago area, CBS 2's Roseanne Tellez reports.

The number of non-travel-related cases of Zika in Florida is now 36.

Once Zika started popping up in her zip code, Christina Frigo wasn't taking any chances. At 32 weeks pregnant, "I was just terrified," she says.

Her husband, Scott, suggested they think seriously about uprooting their lives to leave Miami, even though there was so much to do.

"What my husband made me realize is these are all issues of convenience, as opposed to issues of safety and health," Frigo says.

They packed up the nursery and, three days later, set up a new one at her mother's house in suburban Orland Park. One pregnant friend thought she was over-reacting.

"She was surprised to hear that I was taking such a drastic step, and she's on her way to Boston right now," Frigo says.

Christina and her husband work from home and own the house in Miami where they plan to return.

It was tough to find a new doctor. Still, they're happy with their decision.

"It's totally worth it for us," Frigo says.

Good news:  Christina and her husband tested negative for the virus.
