CHICAGO (CBS) — It may not be widely known, but the Garfield Park community has more than 30 community gardens in the area, offering fresh produce to residents. That’s out of the more than 300 community gardens in the city of Chicago.
Garfield Park Farmers Market Manager Angela Taylor manages those markets, and says they could be an even more plentiful resource to the community.
“We are living in a food desert and this is one way, if each block had a community garden, [people would have more access to fresh food,]” she tells CBS 2’s Marissa Bailey.
The Garfield Park Farmers Market is open Saturdays from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. through October. Most of Chicago’s Farmers Markets close next month, however, here’s how you can find the Chicago-area Farmers Markets closest to you.
