Homewood Woman Among 2 Students Fatally Shot In North Carolina
(CBS) -- A fight breaks out at a college house party in North Carolina, followed by gunfire. Now two students are dead, including a 19-year-old sophomore from south suburban Homewood.
Alisia Dieudonne was not the intended target, local police say.
The Homewood-Flossmoor High School graduate, a dance enthusiast, was studying computer science at North Carolina A & T State and was the youngest of five siblings.
"She went to school to get an education, and that's all she wanted to do -- she wanted to make something of herself," mother Mary Dieudonne-Hill says.
Her family is left grieving and with unanswered questions
"It just doesn't make sense," father Harold Dieudonne says.
Police in North Carolina say a fight broke out at a house party near campus, and shots were fired. Alisia and another student, 21-year-old Ahmad Campbell , were hit and later died. Both were innocent bystanders.
Greensboro police are looking for the shooter.
"We are going to work with whoever we have to work with to bring these people to justice, whoever they are," stepfather James Hill says.
"She lived. And I don't want her to die for nothing, so we have to do something about this violence that's going on in our country," Mary Dieudonne-Hill says.
The family says administrators at the university have reached out and have been supportive.
