(CBS) — A Florida man is in custody after leading Indiana and Illinois state police on a car chase Monday morning.

It happened in Whiting, Ind. around 10:45 a.m. when a police lieutenant pulled over a semi-tractor-trailer that was driving off of a truck route. During the stop, Whiting Police Chief Stephen Miller says the driver took off.

“They tried stopping him again, and he just continued on, running stop sign after stop sign,” Miller tells WBBM Newsradio. “He’d actually hit a parked car over by our library here in town.”

Miller says the pursuit went through East Chicago, Interstate 80/94, Lansing and Calumet City, before the man was taken into custody in Hammond nearly an hour later around 11:30 a.m.

Stop-sticks were used during the pursuit, and several Hammond officers tried shooting out the tires of the truck. The-44 year-old Jacksonville, Florida resident was taken to a local hospital for treatment after he was Tasered while being taken into custody.
