Interstate 55 Outbound Lanes Shut Down Early Saturday After Fatal Accident Near LaGrange

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two outbound lanes of the Stevenson Expressway were shut down following a fatal accident involving two cars and a fire Saturday morning.

It happened shortly before 6 a.m. in the outbound lanes near LaGrange Road.

Illinois State Police say lanes were closed for an investigation.

State Police say a pickup truck was stopped in a traffic lane on I-55 Southbound and was struck in the rear by a Honda at a high speed. The truck rolled over in a ditch and caught fire, and the 45-year-old Chicago male driver died at the scene. The other car had significant front-end damage.

The 22-year-old male driver of the Honda refused medical treatment.
