Two Suspects Shot By Chicago Police After Dragging An Officer

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago police officer and two people suspected of vehicle theft are hospitalized following a police-involved shooting in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood Friday afternoon.

Shortly after 5 p.m. in the area of 70th and South Green Street, an officer with the major auto task force spotted a vehicle reported stolen and approached the vehicle with two people inside. Police say the driver then struck the officer and dragged him along.

Seeing this another officer fired at the vehicle, striking both people inside. The vehicle then crashed.

Both of the vehicle occupants were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The officer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the incident. The officers involved will be placed on 30 days of administrative duty.
