Chicago's Ukrainian Community Celebrates 29th Anniversary Of Ukraine's Independence
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago's Ukrainian community on Sunday celebrated the 29th anniversary of Ukraine's independence.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's ceremony was smaller than in previous years.
There was a gathering at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, at 835 N. Oakley Blvd. in Ukrainian Village. There were other celebrations Sunday in suburban Bloomingdale and Palatine.
On Aug. 24, 1991, the people of Ukraine voted overwhelmingly to declare separation from the Soviet Union.
