2014's Best New Restaurants In Chicago
Chicago is a food town through and through, considering there's just about every kind of food available in the city's many restaurants. Even so, there's always room for more delicious eats. Whether you have a hankering for Tex-Mex food or a hearty bowl of ramen soup, here are five of the best restaurants that opened in 2014.

There's a new reason to head to the Damen blue line el stop, other than Big Star, and that reason is Dove's, which is yet another one of Paul Kahan's amazing creations. Don't let the decor fool you; while it's decked out in a classic diner style, this Tex-Mex restaurant only opened back in September. While the menu does offer one taco option, there's even more variety on this menu than its sisterly neighbor. From the cool ceviches to hot red chile rellanos, you can't go wrong. And unlike Big Star, Dove's is open earlier (and closes earlier -- at 10 p.m.).

For some true Italian cuisine, specifically from the Piedmont region, head to this new Logan Square restaurant. With an Italian-born and raised chef, Cameron Grant, heading up the kitchen, you'll be served an array of traditional bites, such as antipasti like gamberini (crispy hazelnut rock shrimp) and anatra (pan roasted duck breast with cocoa-dusted foie gras). Pair this food with some carefully chosen wines, and it'll feel like your dining in Italy.

The husband-and-wife team at the helm of this Lincoln Square bakery and restaurant know a thing or two about delicious baked goods. That's because they were also the chefs behind the original Bang Bang Pie Shop over in Logan Square. At their new restaurant, which only opened in 2014, they're all about baked goods made with their flour that's milled and grains ground on site. But while those items may be the initial draw, they also have a great choice in lunch and dinner items, like chicken pot pie. Go early because it's first come, first served, and this spot is known to sell out of popular items early.

The menu may be small, but the flavors are big in this West Loop restaurant, which was opened by the masterminds behind Au Cheval. With only 16 seats in this basement restaurant, plan on arriving early, or you'll be waiting to slurp down these gourmet ramen soups. From its namesake soup to its shoyu ramen (made with pork belly and a soft cooked egg), and with prices ranging from a reasonable $12 to $16, this is a soup restaurant worth frequenting.

There are a lot of reasons to visit this River North restaurant, including the fact that it has six cocktails on draft and a versatile menu with everything from lamb short ribs to beer cheese fondue. But even better is that you can go nearly any time of day and get served food until 4 a.m. To top it all off, the environment is comfortable and modern, but not pretentiously so. The servers know the menu, and even though Tippling only opened in October, they won't steer you wrong.
