Bears Sign Canadian Receiver

Jerry Rice said that the Chicago Bears needed to sign an impact receiver. While Andy Fantuz might not be that, the Bears signed him to a reserve/future contract on Friday.

Fantuz played last season in the Canadian Football League.

The native of Ontario spent five years with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and led the CFL with 1,380 yards receiving on 87 catches and six touchdowns this past season. Overall, he had 276 receptions for 4,136 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Hey look a wide receiver taller than 6″2!

  • Jim Wehrheim

I guess he will be valuable in “cold weather” games!

  • Dave

Ah yes, the next “Great White Hope” …..well here’s my hope, I hope he can run a route, I hope he can run down the sidelines without tripping over his own feet and since white men cant jump, I hope he wants the ball more than the other teams defender. One can only Hope!

I pray that Mr. Fantuz will be a big surprise to be the Bears Big Playmaker especially that the NFC North could be the best divison in the NFL in 2011.

Wouldn’t it be great if he turned out as good as another canadian, Izzy?

  • josh

Oh god, a white wide reciever? This isn’t going to end good!

The Bears organization know what their doing from draft picks to free agency after all they did get Todd Collins as their backup quarterback!

  • Keith Pottruff

I have watched him for years as a fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The man has incredible hands (fingers are about 1 inch bigger than the average persons) and can take a hit with the best of him. Look for him to excel in the redzone especially.

    • Mark, Sterling

      Hope so…cuz with a 4.8 40 time, he’s certainly not gonna outrun anyone…..including defensive ends….
