Groce Hired As Illini Basketball Coach

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (CBS) — John Groce has been hired as the new men’s basketball coach at Illinois.

The university will hold a press conference at 1 p.m. CBS 2’s Ryan Baker confirmed the hire.

Groce, who has coached at Ohio since 2008, has led the Bobcats to two of the last three NCAA tournaments. They played in the Sweet 16 this season after beating Michigan and South Florida.

Groce will replace Bruce Weber, who was fired on March 9.
